Hearing Screenings

Follow the steps below to get started

You have been invited to take a free, online hearing screening and participate in a paid research study.

The purpose of this study is to develop an internet-based program for adults who fail a hearing screening to help them decide if they want to visit an audiologist.

This is a paid research study and participants will be offered $20/hr with participation time ranging between two and five hours.

Participants will be screened to determine if they qualify for participation in this study.

To qualify for this study, you must:

  • Fail a hearing screening
  • Pass a reading and cognitive screening 
  • Be between the ages of 45-85
  • Have not seen an Audiologist for evaluation within the last year
  • Have not used hearing aids within the last 5 years

Step 2 – Take the Hearing Screening

After completing the form in step one, check your email for a link to the online hearing screening.

Step 3 – Follow Up with Us

Please select an appointment time to follow up with our research team regarding your results and participation in our research.

Additional Information About the Study

Individuals who participate will be randomly sorted into the “Program” group and the “Delayed” Program group. 

Following the hearing screening:

  1. All individuals will be asked to complete surveys.  This should take about 20 minutes
  2. All individuals who agree to participate will be given the “Standard of Care” which is a referral to get an audiologic evaluation.
  3. Individuals in the Program group will be asked to complete the iManage Program over the next 3 weeks.

Six weeks after the hearing screening:

  1. All individuals will be asked to complete surveys again.  This should take about 20 minutes. 
  2. Individuals in the Program group will receive a payment

Four months after the hearing screening:

  1. All participants will be asked to complete surveys again.  This should take about 10 minutes
  2. All individuals will receive a payment
  3. Individuals in the Delayed group will be given access to the Program to complete if they wish to do so.
